Ahead of International Kidney Day, observed on March 9, researchers have discovered that Neeri KFT, a traditional ayurvedic polyherbal formulation from India, is efficient in controlling the actions of at least six gene variations that cause kidney failure.

Researchers from Jamia Hamdard′s Center of Excellence (CoE) conducted a trial to investigate the herbal medication′s nephroprotective action against genes related to kidney dysfunction using in silico, in vitro, and in vivo approaches, even though the drug, produced by AIMIL Pharma, is already known for its therapeutic properties.

According to the study published in the journal Biomedicines, Neeri KFT mostly consists of gallic acid, caffeic acid, and ferulic acid. A network pharmacology analysis revealed that these polyphenols had a significant impact on the genes implicated in the pathogenesis of kidney disease, namely CASP, IEL, AKT, ACE-2, AGTR-1, and SOD-1.

During the in-vivo investigation, the herbal medicine significantly improved biochemical indicators, antioxidant enzymes, and the expression of inflammatory cytokines in kidney tissues.
